Randy Vang, Fong Yang & Seng Yang
Former Mississippi River Green Team members Randy Vang, Fong Yang and Seng Yang have recently completed their month-long internship with The Nature Conservancy through the LEAF program. The LEAF program (Leaders in Environmental Action for the Future) is made up of teens from urban communities that have demonstrated an interest in conservation. These teens spend four weeks away from home learning about career pathways and becoming environmental stewards. Randy, Fong and Seng spent their month in the Dakotas, first at Whitney Preserve near Hot Springs, South Dakota and then at Cross Ranch near Center, North Dakota. They spent their time working on the preserves, visiting local landmarks and touring colleges.
Most notable to the interns was their trip to the Wind Cave, building fences and seeing bison for the first time. Although being away from home was challenging, the interns enjoyed their experience and recommend the internship to other Green Team alumni.
