Fun-filled Sept. 8 event part of community effort to rebuild playground

Aug. 25, 2016 | For Immediate Release

MINNEAPOLIS — Residents and community members are invited to an evening of storytelling and fun Thursday, Sept. 8, at Lincoln Playground in North Minneapolis.

Visitors can enjoy food and activities in new outdoor reading spaces created by Hennepin County Library – Sumner, local talent, and students from Summit Academy. Books and Little Free Libraries will be open throughout the evening, and visitors can enjoy tales from master storytellers and sign up for their own free library cards.

The event, the third in a series of “pop-up events” at the playground, is part of Lincoln Playground Reimagining — a community-led effort to rebuild the historically important playground into a state-of-the-art public park. The pop-up events are designed to gather input from the community on what future amenities they would like to see at Lincoln Playground.

“Working with residents, neighborhood organizations and local businesses, we envision a completely redesigned space — not just a playground, but an important space for everyone in the community,” said Paul Bauknight, chair of the Lincoln Playground Leadership Team.

Funding for the event is provided by the Center for Prevention at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, as part of Blue Cross’ long‐term commitment to tackling the leading causes of preventable disease: tobacco use, lack of physical activity and unhealthy eating.
