Network: A River Connected

In 2019, artist and choreographer Victoria Bradford Styrbicki embarked on a journey on foot from the headwaters of the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico, visiting 104 towns and cities to gather landscapes, voices, and communities through their stories. Her project, Relay of Voices, explored the intersection of language and movement, as well as her personal connection to the river through family history. Learning traditional fishing net-making, she used this skill to preserve a disappearing art and to process stories through movement, transforming performance into a tangible artifact with political, social, and personal significance. Her exhibit, Network: a River Connected, showcases a collection of these fishing nets, along with photos, stories, and videos from her journey, illustrating the rich network that connects communities along the Mississippi River.

Call for Artists

Interested in showing your work at MWMO Stormwater Park and Learning Center?

The MWMO is proud to partner with local artists to feature exhibits in our lobby gallery. Our vision for the space is to highlight artists who demonstrate connection with and stewardship of the Mississippi River and its watershed. Exhibits are typically up for three months and artists are encouraged to host some type of community engagement activity that highlights their work and supports the mission of the MWMO during that time.
