Each of our school outreach programs is designed to engage students in learning about how to protect and improve water quality in the Mississippi River. Each 45-60 minute program is designed to be delivered to up to 30 students at a time, in school classrooms, by an MWMO educator. Programs include interactive, hands-on activities to bring concepts to life and help students understand what they can do in their own lives and with their communities to keep the river clean and enjoyable for many years to come.

Current Offerings:
Introduction to the Water Cycle
Students will learn about how water moves around the earth and changes state through a fun and active role-playing activity. Students will develop an understanding of the water cycle and recognize that all the water on earth is continually moving and changing. This program is best-suited for 3rd-5th grade.
Stormwater 101
Learn about stormwater runoff—where it comes from, where it goes, and how it contributes to pollution in the Mississippi River. In this 45-minute program, students will learn about the challenges of keeping the Mississippi River clean, especially in the Twin Cities metro area where pollution is easily carried to the river as water flows over streets, parking lots, and sidewalks. Identify the principal pollutants in our local watershed and find out more about how we keep those pollutants out of the river to keep it clean and healthy. This program is best-suited for 5th-8th grade.
